Physically install a SAS HBA into a Unity 6000

Hello and welcome to another video in the How To series. This one fairly short and sweet. We're just looking at physically installing a SAS HBA into a unity 6000 so my name is Richard Hornsby, but I can't take the credit for this one. It was done by the engineers down in our manufacturing plant in Derby in the UK.

So we'll go straight to the video, fairly short and sweet. You'll hear me narrating over the top of it, but hopefully it'll give you a good view of how to do it. So that said, here we go.

Okay, so the first thing to do is, once you've removed the controller from the chassis, obviously, there's two controllers, so you'll need to do this on both of the controllers. Just go to the blue screws at the top. First you will need a cross head screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, and you'll notice here as well, the engineer has his anti static strap on as well. So important to do that.

But once you've undone those screws, let's do little clips at the top. Just push them up, and then the whole kind of top piece of the controller should come off fairly smoothly. Okay. Then where the card needs to go, you'll notice this little clip. So again, using the crosshead screwdriver, you'll need to undo that clip first, okay. And then once that is undone, just gently, kind of pull it out and loosen it as it were, okay.

Then there is the blanking plate. Remove the blanking plate from the unit and just put that to one side, and then you can start to install this as HBA.

Now it should just slot in into the obvious kind of slot on the left hand side there. It can be quite fiddly, okay, so just make sure it's kind of flat and parallel. If it isn't, you'll notice here that the clip won't go back on, okay? So if it's not correct, it will kind of give you that feedback. Okay, the clip won't be allowed to go back on. So once you've kind of figured out why it isn't flat, just make sure you do that, there you go. Just notice you just push it down from the bottom, the clip will then go back on.

So once it's in place again, using the cross head screwdriver, just screw that back in, then secure it, as you can see on the video, that's a pretty tricky bit done, okay, and then putting the back on this can be, again, quite fiddly. You've got to kind of, kind of line up the grooves and the slots in order to slide it in. And can be tricky because there's obviously four that you need to align at the same time. But once you've got it there. If you then push it down, you'll see those clips kind of move into place automatically for you just push them down, and then using the cross head screwdriver, make sure you go through and tighten them all again.

Okay. So once you've done that, it's pretty much all complete. Don't forget to do it on the second controller as well, and then then you're good to go.
