Beginning 2011, Imation focused on scalable data storage and data security. We made several key investments starting with the acquisition of IronKey’s secure hardware business which developed into the World’s Most Secure Flash Drives™. Today’s IronKey products feature a portable storage and workspace portfolio, very well known in the high-security portable storage market.

Late 2011, Imation acquired patented data deduplication technology from Nine Technology. This software engine eliminates redundant data, enabling shorter backup windows, quicker recovery, lower infrastructure costs and more robust and reliable data protection. Today, this is an integral technology for Imation’s scalable storage and data security businesses.

Imation completed the $120M acquisition of Nexsan Corp in late 2012. Today, Imation’s Nexsan portfolio features hybrid storage systems, secure automated archive solutions and high-density enterprise storage arrays. Nexsan solutions are ideal for mission-critical IT applications such as virtualization, cloud, databases, and collaboration. Since 1999, over 11,000 customers have deployed more than 33,000 Nexsan systems worldwide.

October 2015 saw Imation acquire Connected Data. This Silicon Valley based company is the leader in delivering on-premise, private cloud file sync and share appliances to small- and mid-sized enterprises. Using the Transporter brand, these buy and own appliances deliver a secure alternative to public cloud subscription services from box and Dropbox. Transporter offers users the mobile access they demand on devices they own, they give IT organizations the ability to enforce their security policies.

Today, Imation is well on its way to achieving its vision as a leading global technology company that helps business and government organizations store, protect and connect to their data anytime, from any location, using mobile devices you own.
