Nexsan is hiring a Manager/Technical Writer for our Technical Documentation team. As a working manager, you will be responsible for all company documentation. You will be the project lead, writer, editor, and main point of contact for all our storage products. You will direct the company’s documentation delivery strategy, working closely with the support and services team.
You will create feature documentation, release notes, in-product documentation for our customers and API documentation for our developers. As a technical leader who is passionate about the customer experience, you set the standard for excellence for our documentation, ensuring that we deliver technically accurate, well-written, simple, and customer-focused documentation. You’ll help set and be expected to deliver on aggressive goals for documenting new features and services and for improving the quality of existing documentation.
Lead a globally diverse team of technical writers in creating high-quality documentation
Develop documentation project plans and timelines
Participate in all aspects of documentation development, from product planning through product release
Understand product requirements and establish strong relationships working collaboratively with Product Managers and Engineering leads to ensure that documentation deliverables are produced in accordance to release requirements and documentations standards and best practices
Develop processes, standards and best practices to maintain the integrity of documentation
Write, publish and maintain User, Installation and Technical Reference guides, as well as online content for a varied audience, including for both end users and network and storage administrators
Evaluate usability of the software graphical user interface (GUI) and edit/validate on-screen prompts, error and informational messages and all user interface text
Work independently and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
Learn the products through hands-on experience and information gathered through product specifications and from team members
Review published materials and recommend revisions in scope, format and content
Develop drawings, diagrams and charts to illustrate material
At least 7 years of technical writing experience
At least 2 years of people management or team lead experience
Experience documenting enterprise grade storage, networking, or similar hardware and software products. Knowledge of cloud or hybrid storage technology is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
Experience working directly with globally distributed teams
Mastery of MadCap Flare and Adobe FrameMaker or other similar authoring software
Analytical, thorough, resourceful
Self-starter who is comfortable in a fast-paced technology start-up environment
Exemplary listening skills and a reputation for building collaborative relationships with colleagues
Education & Training:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or equivalent
