Solution: Upgrade legacy tape storage and manual offsite storage to meet current and future demands
For more than 30 years, NWRDC had provided state-of-the-art data protection for its customers in its Tallahassee, Florida facility. Over the years the data center had seen many renovations to allow for newer technology and more storage area, and the team had made investments in a faster, more nimble infrastructure. A few years ago, as NWRDC’s tape backup solution began showing signs that it was near the end of its useful life, the team began the search for an upgraded system to meet current and future demands, all of which had changed dramatically from the time of NWRDC’s inception. Solution: The retrieval time for archived medical images could take anywhere from 15 – 30
minutes per DVD on their legacy DVD jukebox. These delays negatively impacted the ability
of MDR’s radiologists to access and view patient
studies and complete the diagnosis of their patients.
The improvement in performance coupled with the
availability of higher storage capacities has elevated the
effectiveness of MDR’s diagnostic radiology practice.
By keeping all production and the majority of archived
images online, retrieval times for all images in a patient
study are now often measured in seconds or minutes,
thereby reducing the amount of time that doctors need
to spend waiting for patient study images and allowing
them to be more productive in their jobs. |
