Nexsan Releases Next-Generation Multi-Terabyte D2D Backup Solution With 30% Faster Performance, New Modular Architecture
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., June 10, 2002 - Nexsan Technologies today announced an enhanced version of its InfiniSAN D2D storage solution that combines the multi-terabyte capacity of the ATAboy2 hardware platform with an upgrade of the company's award winning disk-to-disk (D2D) backup software to deliver faster-than-tape backup solutions at a better-than-tape price.
The new ATAboy2 is an affordable - less than 1 cent per megabyte -- high-density storage solution, providing more than 1.6 Terabytes of D2D backup capacity to host Nexsan's latest breakthrough in D2D software. Nexsan's first major D2D software upgrade includes a broad range of enhancements that make disk-based backup operations faster and easier, while providing administrators with a rich management tool set to improve backup operations.
"As the market leader in D2D backup solutions, we have surpassed the recent entries into the market and produced yet another technology breakthrough," said Diamond Lauffin, Nexsan's Senior Executive Vice President. "While these newcomers are just learning what this market is all about and what customers need, Nexsan is delivering a second-generation D2D architecture that keeps us out in front in D2D technology."
This latest iteration of Nexsan's InfinSAN D2D software features a new modular architecture that enables customers to more easily and efficiently upgrade to new features and functions on future releases. The new modular software design combines with improved file management to deliver 30 percent faster backup performance over the first-generation D2D software.
The faster performance is complemented with more robust administrative tools to more effectively manage backup and restore options. The new software release includes additional wizards to manage data restorations and job removals, and improved monitoring of file status on the backup appliance. Improved version management and point in time restore capability allow an administrator to have broad control over the protection and restoration of vital corporate data, including an option to select full or partial restores, or a point-in-time restore on a job-by-job basis. Administrators now have ultimate flexibility in controlling backup process with Nexsan's new pre-and post scripting capabilities. This feature allows inter-application control, enabling the most efficient backup options. For example, in cases where a virus scan program is impacting backup options, Nexsan software can stop the virus program, perform the backup, then restart the virus scanning.
Nexsan's D2D technology sets the standard in high-performance disk-based data protection by providing on-site, on-line backup copies of critical files with a lower cost-per-megabyte than tape. Data is protected through event-based, real time backup to either a local on-site, on-line primary and/or an off-site, on-line secondary disaster recovery system. This event-based model eliminates backup window problems and the exposure to loss of up to several business days' data associated with traditional backup applications. InfiniSAN D2D also eliminates the down time associated with the traditional process of restoring a file or rebuilding a server from a tape based system by providing an on-line replication of a file system on a disk based, RAID implemented, random access solution.
Nexsan's D2D software runs on the InfiniSAN ATAboy Series hardware platform, providing enterprise-class features and functionality in a low profile -- up to 14 drives in a 3u enclosure -- cost-correct, expandable package. Nexsan's ATAboy solutions deliver unquestioned reliability based on utilizing redundancy and the latest advancements in RAID technology and next-generation performance and data availability for the most demanding storage and data-delivery applications.
