DISC, NEXSAN PARTNER TO DELIVER TIERED FIXED CONTENT SOLUTION AT CEBIT
Joint solution is the first CAS-based storage solution with integrated Disk and Optical
Hannover, Germany and Woodland Hills, California - March 9, 2006 - Nexsan Technologies and DISC GmbH today announced at CeBIT (Hall 1 , Booth H100) the introduction of a combined storage solution for fixed content that features Nexsan's award winning Assureon secure storage system and DISC's optical libraries based upon blue laser technology. The solution offers customers the security of optical disc for their long term archiving requirements, the speed of Nexsan's SATA-based disk arrays and the security, accessibility, and management capabilities necessary to meet the compliance regulations and corporate governance requirements for long term archiving.
Nexsan's Assureon system utilizes CAS (content addressed storage) technology to provide efficient and secure management of archived information. DISC's integration with Assureon allows optical library customers for the first time to take advantage of CAS technology. Assureon's CAS system reduces storage costs by eliminating all duplicate files (single instance store). Self-management capabilities allow the overall storage capacity to grow without additional manpower. Self-diagnostic and self-healing capabilities are built into Assureon assuring a customer that the integrity of a file will be intact 5, 20, 50 years in the future.
Privacy regulations are growing throughout the world and also are the number of security breaches, especially when media is transported offsite. Assureon includes the option to encrypt files as they come under management using 256-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm. Assureon is the only product able to dispose of information, at the file level, at the end of their retention period whether its on magnetic disk, optical disk, WORM optical or at an offsite location. This is accomplished through Assureon's unique patent-pending cryptographic scrubbing process.
"DISC has been a market leader in developing some of the finest optical library technology, now we are listening to what are customers are saying. They love the security of optical storage but they need speed and they need more capabilities to meet the demand of the compliance laws and corporate governance practices they have to implement. We found those capabilities with a partnership with Nexsan", said Wilfried Beckmann Managing Director of DISC GmbH.
"Partnering and working with a strong optical leader like DISC makes perfect sense. Customers want a tiered, integrated and cohesive approach to long term storage. Nobody wants to throw away what they have been doing and start over, that just doesn't make good business sense. Our joint solution allows customers to leverage the storage investment they have already made, meet their requirements today and have a path to grow in the future", according to Diamond Lauffin, Nexsan's Senior Executive Vice President.
